Discover Tacos Polo

Walking into Tacos Polo feels like stepping into a neighborhood spot that knows exactly what it is and doesn’t try to be anything else. Tucked at 16 Little Falls Rd, Fairfield, NJ 07004, United States, this small diner-style restaurant has become a regular stop for locals who want honest Mexican food without the fuss. I’ve eaten here more times than I can count, usually after a long workday when the only thing that sounds right is a warm tortilla and something slow-cooked.

The menu keeps things refreshingly straightforward. You’ll see staples like tacos al pastor, carne asada, carnitas, and chicken, along with burritos, quesadillas, and tortas. What stands out is the consistency. I once asked how they keep the flavor so steady, and the answer was simple: meats are marinated in-house daily, tortillas are warmed to order, and salsas are made fresh each morning. That tracks with what food scientists from organizations like the USDA often emphasize-fresh preparation and proper marination directly affect flavor retention and food safety.

One of my go-to orders is the al pastor taco. The pork is sliced thin, slightly crisped, and balanced with pineapple that cuts through the richness. The texture matters here. According to culinary research published by the Institute of Food Technologists, contrast between crisp and tender elements significantly improves perceived taste. You feel that theory in action with every bite. Add chopped onion, cilantro, and a squeeze of lime, and it’s hard to stop at just one.

The process behind their salsas deserves attention too. I watched the staff roast tomatoes and peppers on a flat-top, then blend them in small batches. That roasting step develops natural sugars, which explains why the red salsa has depth without needing added sweeteners. The green salsa leans brighter and sharper, perfect for chicken or steak tacos. These methods mirror traditional Mexican kitchen practices that chefs like Rick Bayless have long highlighted as essential for authentic flavor.

Location matters for a diner like this, and Fairfield is a smart fit. Being right off a busy road makes it an easy lunch stop, yet it still feels local. Reviews from regulars often mention quick service, fair prices, and portions that don’t leave you hungry. From my experience, orders come out fast even during peak hours, which suggests a well-organized kitchen flow rather than cutting corners.

There’s also a trust factor that keeps people coming back. The dining area is simple but clean, and you can see the cooks working, which builds confidence. Transparency like that aligns with findings from the CDC showing that visible food prep areas tend to increase customer trust and satisfaction. While it’s not a sit-down restaurant meant for long dinners, it works perfectly for casual meals and takeout.

That said, there are limitations worth noting. Seating is limited, so large groups might feel cramped, and the menu doesn’t wander far beyond Mexican comfort food. If you’re looking for experimental fusion dishes, this may not be the place. But for diners who value reliability, flavor, and a menu that knows its strengths, that focus is actually a plus.

What really keeps this spot memorable is how it fits into everyday life. I’ve stopped by on lunch breaks, brought tacos home for family dinners, and even grabbed a quick bite before errands. Each time, the experience stays the same in the best way. Fresh ingredients, straightforward processes, and food that delivers exactly what it promises without overthinking it.

  • Tacos Polo is delicious. After a few times ordering takeout and delivery - the carnitas and al pastor tacos are great - we hosted a friend’s group dinner after hours (they also do catering) with Andy and team. We did carnitas, quesabirria, and chicken tacos - plus a few off-menu items like aguachile and flan/tres leches. Highly recommended.

  • Plain Nachos were delicious and far from “plain” Birria Tacos had a little more fat than I would prefer but I know that is truly authentic. The chicken tacos were bangin and definitely authentic mom vibes all around. Great spot would definitely come back. Oh also the Jamaica drink is delicious.

  • authentic Mexican tacos! So much flavor and not dry, just all around amazing. I had chicken today. And I plan to go back to try the others. This place is near my church so now I know where to hang afterwards, not to mention I order to go and it was still warm 40 minutes later. Amazing

  • Simple no-frills place for good food. Had the Tacos Al Pastor, which were excellent. Had the red Chilaquiles with chix and that was good too. Tasty horchata as well. All servings were generous for the price. Great value. Would definitely go there again if in the area.

  • First time going, grabbed lunch, and ordered take out. I got the Carnitas tacos as is, which come with radish slices, grilled onions, and cilantro. On the side were two different sauces and a wedge of lime. The tacos were soooo delicious and very flavorful. I used both sauces and lime to top all of the tacos, it was the perfect amount. I'm definitely planning to go back to try some of the other menu items, can't wait!

  • My wife was in the mood for tacos tonight. She suggested Tacos Polo based on input from friends. We live ten minutes away and quick, casual, no frills Mexican seemed like a good choice. The restaurant was empty when we got there which quickly made sense when I realized they were only open until 6pm. Mt wife ordered the carnitas tacos and I had the pork. Both dishes were served on corn tortillas with the usual authentic Mexican toppings (cilantro, onion, radish, etc). We asked for them all the way which came with three salsas. We opted for the mildest which was a flavorful pico de gallo. Both the beef and pork tacos were tasty and very flavorful. The corn tortillas were very moist which I appreciated. I usually prefer flour tortillas, but I wanted to taste them the way they serve them. I’m glad I did. Overall, the food was good and the people were nice.
